As far as the pics, as always, I'm behind !  But, I did commit to putting some up by month's end, and am working on that this week.  I'll post on the forums when they're ready to be seen !  Thanks for everyone's patience...

Well, as promised, I posted pics from both the ECAC event, and my (and Joe's) CAGDC tourney this past March, last night !  But, I didn't have time, after 'burning the midnight oil', to post about it !  Well, I'm taking care of that now, and you can go to links in this paragraph to peruse all the shots (a total of 181 !).  I'll have the full-sized originals up on the Members Area soon, and also the discarded shots (almost 70) up on the Elite Members Area.

Let me know if any of you see any errors, or corrections to be made.  I know you'll enjoy seeing pics of Challenge Arcade during an event, and if you at all can, then definitely plan on being there in person for the next tourney - namely, the 2007 CAGDC Tournament, next March !

Mark,

Thanks for putting up the pics! They are awesome. I forgot about the "incident" on Frogger. I'll have to ask around to see if anyone has every seen this. That was really strange.
I am looking forward to the marathon AND to the next tourney at Challenge Arcade. Any ideas on the games yet?

I encourage everyone to check out the pics and see the screen pic for Frogger! It was wild , what happened.

The pictures are great Mark.  It was great to see everybody in action.   I saw Walter from TG mention the contest in his forum section.  The "Frogger" glitch was something I never saw before but I believe I heard about it before, but it's a random thing. I've seen many weird glitches in Mr. Do! lately and I'll have to write about them one day.  Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing Bryan go for the Marathon in December.  Good Luck Bryan!!

I'll have the full-sized originals up on the Members Area soon, and also the discarded shots (almost 70) up on the Elite Members Area.

OK, everyone - done deal !  I have everything from the two tourneys up and ready, in both the regular Members Area, and the Elite Members Area.  I have also modified things, so that anyone can look at a description of all of what's available in both the regular, and Elite, Members Areas.  To do so, go to the introductory page, and click the I agree button to go to the descriptive page.

Now, just as a 'preview' of what's to come, I'm currently working on getting the media page (with videos and sounds) set up, and also I'll be working this month on updates for the CAGDC True world records scoreboard.  Then, perhaps by year's end, I'll have a few more photo sets up, including lots more for both of the Members Areas.  Stay tuned...

heh thank you Mark, I ejoyed the pics, saved a few of them to add to my mysapce account, but I cannot wait for my vid, that I post up on youtube, than my profile, but I am in no rush for it right now so but good work, and I will see you in march :3

You're welcome Ryan, and thanks to you (and everyone else who either was there for the two events, and / or is a faithful forums reader !) for your patience.  As I wrote to you separately, please keep the use of photos offsite to a minimum (and, please ask first).  Also, I must ask that no sharing of videos take place, since if they're on Youtube, then the viewer has no reason to visit my site.

Basically, I simply want Internet users to have to come to my site to see things like the photos or videos I post.  That way, I get occasional benefits, like them buying DVD's, or checking out my 'Trade or Sale' page.  That helps me to pay for my web site's domain and hosting costs, and also occasionally garners me a few $$$ extra, which I use to help defray a small part of the cost of my trips to the various events (which average around $600 each).

You're quite welcome, Bryan.  They did turn out well, tho I'm sorry that I was so busy running the March tourney that I couldn't take nearly as many photos as I wanted to at that event.

Yep, the Frogger pic shows the non-disappearing skull and crossbones.  When you die on the game, they normally very briefly appear onscreen, in the position that your frog was when he died.  On this game, they stayed on for about 2 minutes, and then they disappeared, and the game went on normally.

Yes, I encourage everyone who can to attend the December exhibition, featuring (for now) Bryan, who will break the wr on Burger Time (there's no doubt in my mind that he will, so I'll just say it that way).  Pat Laffaye may show, and attempt a Frogger record, and I imagine that some other gamers may show up and take a stab at things, such as Frank Lupia on Pengo.  Perhaps Ryan can go for the CarnEvil record, too.  I'll be putting up some more details on this mini-event soon, on this thread.

As far as the games go, I'll be talking to Joe probably this week, and confirming the available titles before I put up the poll I mentioned in this post (and, also later in the thread).  I'll likely have the poll up next week.

The pictures are great Mark. It was great to see everybody in action. I saw Walter from TG mention the contest in his forum section. You're certainly welcome, Frank.  Thanks for the input on the TG forums, and the glitches.  I'd definitely like to hear about some of the Mr. Do! bugs.  Please do a writeup when you have time, and post in the Games, Games, it's All About the Games... section.  Oh, and, what's the scoop - will you try for Pengo while Bryan's going for Burger Time ??

Congrats on raising your CarnEvil mark.  Keep going until you top the 2M wr !!  I think marathoning SPF2 X would be difficult, since it ends after so many fighters.  Of course, I guess you could draw it out on the first few screens, and build your score up...  I'll see you in March !

oh and Mark, I got your e-mail its cool, I know my vid cant than but its cool ^^, but anyway how good do you think I would do going for a marathon on puzzle fighter? Grin and one game I would like to see, Magical Drop III, that game is so fun......XD, anyway gotta go got work in the morning

Maybe you know how to draw out the game and make it last, but as I said above, I figure that it would be hard to do.  But, you're the best player I've ever seen, so you could do very well, no doubt.

Thanks for the suggestion about MD III.  I think it's in the red Neo-Geo 2-slot unit, isn't it ?  But, that's the one that we'll probably use for a Jamma cart that I have, and may use in next year's event.  Or, I might bring a N-G title of my own.  I do have a couple that I like.

Well, that sums up my response to your posts, guys.  Thanks very much for the kind words, and I'm glad to put all this stuff up, both for your enjoyment, and to preserve it as a documentation of these great events.

Jimmy,

Mr. Do! the 1982 Classic Coin Operated Arcade Game and the Diamond:

Strictly at random, breaking open an apple will reveal a diamond; running Mr. Do!
over this diamond provides an extra credit (free game). It is interesting that
the sequels to Mr. Do! have the same special features.

Glad to see you posting. I am assuming you have chosen Mr. Do! for one
of the contest games at Mark Alpiger's 2007 Classic Gaming Challenge
Arcade Event.

I wonder if you will be allowed to marathon the game and try to beat
the existing world record of 2,535,852 by John McKeever of Montreal, Canada
or improve your existing Twin Galaxies score of 1,975,150?

Mr. Do! TG High Scores:
http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&pi=2&gi=2548&vi=3354

Let us know of the results.

Oh yeah. I can get that score.

when I did 1,975,... they had it on tournament settings.

On factory settings it will be a piece of cake.

For this game I need only 1 play to win the contest.

My 1.2m on pac mania was enough to win the contest, but i wanted to show how good i REALLY was, so I played 3 more times, one of the games i threw away.

I don't think anyone at this event knows my tricks for escaping trouble...FOR MR DO.

At this event I have a 1 hr time limit, but on any other day, yes that is MONEY IN THE BANK.

so pacmania...I guess you have pretty much patterns for clearing the boards and getting nice monster eats.

I always knew someone would dominate this game...but not to that level.

Aren't there only something like 20 boards(forget exact number..would have to rack through them to see) on the USA version?

to get 2 million...means averaging about 100k per board.  I can see that for 6-8 of the boards...but also the later ones?!?!?  must have some good patterns for awesome eats on those short blue boards.

THERE ARE 19 LEVELS. 19TH IS THE HARDEST ONE. MY PATTERN WORKS ABOUT 75% OF THE TIME.
AFTER 19 THE GAME REPEATS 14-19 INDEFINITELY.

ON MY 3.7M GAME I NEVER DIED ON LEVEL 19!! I DIED ONCE ON 18,TWICE ON 15 AND ONCE ON 16.

I USED TO PLAY THIS GAME ON A REGULAR BASIS IN THE 90'S. WHEN PLAYLAND ON 42ND ST TIMES SQUARE CLOSED DOWN ON JULY OF 1994 THERE WERE NO MORE PAC MANIA MACHINES AROUND.

I STUMBLED ON ONE IN 2001, BUT IT WAS ON LEVEL B.

I'M ACCUSTOMED TO LEVELS C AND D.

USA VERSION?? i didn't know there was more than 1 version.

IF I HAVE ANY STRENGTH LEFT OVER FROM THE TOURNAMENT I WILL PLAY 1 OR 2 GAMES OF PACMANIA
AND SEE WHAT I CAN DO.

IF YOU COME TO THE TOURNAMENT I WILL SHOW YOU SOME NEAT SETUPS FOR GETTING POINTS.

Would be interesting to see your Pacmania patterns.

If you want, you can show your Pacmania skills to the world here:
MARP scores for Pacmania US and Japan

All you need is computer, Wolfmame-emulator:
http://wolfmame.marpirc.net/wolfmameplus-0101.exe,
Then play and record a game, upload to MARP.

Here is MAME faq:

OOOOH, no wonder I could never understand how those top scores were obtained.  Every pacmania machine I ever played....including the default settings(normally the factory settings) in MAME as well end the game after that 19th board.  It doesn't loop back.

You get a final little scene with "thanks for playing" or something to that effect on the screen.

This makes me wonder though what the correct settings are...cuz I never saw one that looped back...thus assumed the 1.5-2 million type scores were still playing just 19 boards...which would be ridiculously amazing....to the point I didn't persue it cuz it would mean patterns where you max points every board....eating 4-5+ monsters on each energizer...every board.

There must be a dip switch that sets whether it loops or not...if no dip switch, then it must be a different chip set.

..but you playing with looping?  I could train a bit more and perhaps challenge those scores with looping...cuz I had developed patterns for most of the boards.
..or at least patterns to clear 75+% of each board...then wing it for the last cleanup parts.

I think I maybe have a mame replay file with my patterns somewhere..but not sure...will have to check into it...but this title is well down the list for me.
