Popeye record of 26 years topped... twice !

One of the longest standing, and most difficult to match, cag records has fallen.  On June 11, 2010 at the Northwest Pinball and Gameroom Show, Perry Rodgers made 1,238,110 points on Popeye.  This edged out the old score of 1,232,250 made by Steve Harris in 1983.  Congrats to Perry for the long-time dedication that led to him breaking this score on the arcade platform.

Amazingly enough, another Popeye player recently topped not only a million, but also both of the above scores, using MAME.  Forums member Ryan Sandnes (TheShado) made 1,469,440 points on June 22, 2010, and thus threw down the gauntlet to all current Popeye masters that he was a major contender, and expert.  Congratulations, Ryan.

He's got a Tron cabinet for sale also...l00ks like he took a movie poster and tacked it to the sides and called it side art...

Heh, it's not even a Tron cab, it's a Gorf cab painted black.

Yes, you are correct!  The cabinet shapes are similar...

Scroll all the way to the bottom for the cocktail Atari 5200...I'm not sure if that is an original cocktail or not - it looks like a home brew...

this was my first attempt, a gutted atari dig dug/centipede style cab:

and this is my second and most recent:

actually spent a few bucks on the frogger art!

i think both of mine are pretty tasteful, if more people did this at a minimum and spent a few minutes planning before diving in, MAME wouldnt have such a bad name.

this was my first mame test rig when i was learning how to hook up the buttons and joysticks:

eventually i built a pair of these, and by then i realized there was no way to duplicate the feel of an actual arcade game without building or modifying an actual arcade game.  these were hooked up to a laptop and then into a big screen TV and could be played sitting on the couch:

i didnt do anything pretty, but i took my time and did my research and didnt go off half cocked.  its not rocket science.
