California Extreme is the "Classic Arcade Games Show". In a nutshell, it's an annual
celebration of coin operated pinball machines, video games and other novelties you
once found in game arcades. There are speakers from Atari and other manufacturers
who usually give informative speeches about the by gone arcade era with an inside
look of how the games were made and what drove these programmers to build these
gems. All 400 games are on free play so it's quite a fun time!

Thanks for the announcement, Paul.  I appreciate your generocity in putting on your annual event - the amount of time and money that you spend for this each year is incredible, and you're one of those organizers / organizations in the hobby that is an example of the 'player-centric' philosophy !

I think we'll have Mike Klug and Les Lagier duking it out for top honors on Pole Position.  Maybe after the contest, we can set the game to CAGDC settings (factory default), and see if they can top Rick Carter's inaugural record of 48,800, from the recent CAGDC Tourney !

Sounds like another great contest Paul.  Never played Donkey Kong 2 before.
They did change the location not too much farther.

That's right, a brand new location has been chosen for California Extreme 2009 (CAX):

It's time for our 13th show! We have a fantastic new location this year - the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. This is also the show hotel which is giving us a fantastic rate on 4-star rooms. See the Hotel Page for booking information (available now!).

Paul,
Your killin me,

A Pole Position high score competetion completely on the other side of the country?
A possible chance to share strategies with Mike and Les ?

I recently purchased a working Pole Position 2, and played it all weekend.
Thanks to Rick Carter, I am finally getting the hang of engaging the superhighspeed trick.
After flying around Fuji at 320mph+ I decided to switch back to original PP1 for a few games

I felt like I was on a moped!

three games, 66,010, 66,000 and 66,310, right in a row. still have yet to top my pb of 66,510 though

some vids for your viewing pleasure;
