Costanza no longer Master of His (Frogger) Domain

Perennial loser George Costanza (a fictional character from TV's Seinfeld) suffered the ultimate defeat shortly before the new year when Pat Laffaye of Westport, Connecticut surpassed not only his own non-fictional Frogger world record of 771,060 but George's (literally) unreal score of 860,630 with an incredible 896,980 points.  Pat's highest ever verified Frogger score also surpasses Donald Hayes' MAME record of 881,150.  Now, the race is on to 1 million points and the 256th board.

That's right - yesterday's original airing of WWtBaM had a question about the first perfect game, that was done in 1999, where all 256 screens were completed (I think that was the wording, which is not really correct, of course).  Billy was not mentioned by name, but was called "a Florida man", and there were game choices given, including Donkey Kong, and (of course) the right answer of Pac-Man.

If anyone taped it, please write out the entire question, and the answers, in this thread...

Mark ......here is a cut and paste from another forum....

Quote
The $50,000 question was someone made history in 1999 by being the first complete all 256 levels in what game... Tetris, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man... and I forget the 4th... They said Tetris and got it wrong.

Thanks for the post, John.  Our local station (and probably all stations who syndicate the show) reran the episode with the question today, and I caught it in its entirity:

In 1999, a Florida man completed all 256 boards to become the first person ever to play a perfect game of what ?

A. Donkey Kong    B. Frogger

C. Pac-Man         D. Tetris

Here's some background info on this particular show:  It was the first-ever multi-generational Family Week, and the contestants for this question were Helen Young (of Lawrencville, GA), her daughter Lynne Studer and her daughter Elizabeth Studer.  The question was for the $50,000 level, and all their lifelines were gone.  They guessed Tetris as the answer, and got it wrong, since the answer is (of course) Pac-Man.  Well, at least they took home $25,000.

If you guys don't watch Millionaire, I recommend taping it - it's great tv, and (unlike crappy Deal or No Deal), you can learn something new and interesting.

Even better, you all should go out to the movies and watch Slumdog Millionaire.  It's the same gameshow but based in India.  Easily of the best movies of the year!!!

Also, don't look at any reviews...  TRUST ME!!  I stopped watching/reading because those idiots now give away key parts and basically give a synopsis of the entire story.   Angry

Somebody once walked away and took the money becuase he couldn't tell that Pikachu, Squirtle, Jigglypuff were Pokemon and Frodo wasn't. That question was when Regis was hosting and Pokemon was EVERYWHERE.

Too bad they didn't ask about the first perfect game of Pac-Man with the first four players as the possible answers (OK, I'm bias.. Grin)  Of course I would not want to diss Donald Hayes, either....

Would like to see that episode....
