Donkey Kong 3  TGTS / marathon records topped...  twice each !

The recent interest, record-wise, with Donkey Kong hasn't just been limited to that title, and its sequel, Donkey Kong Junior.  Classic gamer George Riley recently acquired a Donkey Kong 3 machine, and in just more than a week's time, broke both the tournament and marathon records, each previously held by Dwayne Richard.

First, on May 22, George took down the tourney title, with 520,300 points (previous record: 473,400).  Then, on May 28, he got the marathon record, scoring 2,781,100 (previous record: 2,583,000).  But, he still pressed on.  Apparently on a roll with the marathon track, he topped that one again, and less than a week after his initial record.  Specifically, on June 3, he cracked the three million barrier, making an incredible 3,087,100 points !  Now, surely George would be satisfied... well, apparently, not !   Perhaps 'thirsty' for even more points, he went another week, and on June 10, he smashed his already lofty tournament mark with a spectacular total of 857,200 !

Big congratulations go out to George for not one, not two, and not even three, but four arcade world records, all set within a 3 week period, and the first being within a couple of days after acquiring the machine.  Now, that's some kind of skill !

First off I want to thank everyone who showed up at Funspot last Sat. Apr 11th - Dave, Jason, Anna, Jen, Eric, and Chris(Burnell). I went for an all day D2K marathon in celebration of my 3xth birthday - trying to break 200K - or at least log a 150K or better with Dave.

Played at least 8 games of D2K that day. My best game was a decent 139,900 - but nothing to write home about. Ironically - it was my worst starting D2K game EVER!! Lost 3 men on level 1 - 2 of them being on the rivet board (1-8). Proceeded to lose 2 more men on 2-2 (barrel board - no suprise there!!) and one more death on 2-3. I am now on my last man with not even 45,000.  Angry Embarrassed

I then cleared the rest of level 2, ALL OF LEVEL 3, and the first three boards on level 4 (4-2 gave me NO problem this time around).
Lost my last life on the pie factory board BECAUSE I HAD TO POINT PRESS IT!!!!!  STUPID SCOOTIE!!!!!! Evil

In spite of that - it was my best D2K comeback and my second best score on a single man (97,800).

Played a little Zookeeper as well in between D2K games. Had a VERY GOOD 4.4 million game - getting a 2 million jump on the 3rd lion board.

However (on my b-day too) :?  Eric had one of his best FS days ever - blowing away his old Toobin WR by breaking 4 million (4,196,188 final score) and finally breaking the 100K barrier on D2K. Eric played 2 games of D2K that day and scored 112,800, and 113,500 - the latter being logged with Dave. On the 2nd game - Eric had 3 lives left at the atart of 3-7 and lost them ALL!!  Evil

I am beginning to see Eric as a real SERIOUS THREAT ON D2K. Eric only plays the game at FS - he does not have MisfitMAME or a PC (even though I offered him my old 800Mhz), nor does he have the kit. Considering how much more time I have been putting into D2K at Funspot - as well as on MisfitMAME -  this "irks" me to say the least. I now see Eirc as a greater threat on D2K than Donald or Dave - although that may change if either of them decides to put some serious time into D2K!!

Also looking forward to Funspot IX - as well as the VGO coming to FS next Sat. Richie, Paige, J.J, and Jamie -  looking forward to seeing  you guys next month - as well as the rest of the Cahill clan!!

Eric is a really good gamer.

But Scootie will hit 400 K soon on DK2............

Just forget what is hard and what you fear and play........

Thewn you will hear: "HOW did Scootie get 400K?"

Sort of sounds like getting 400K on MS PAC, Back In The Day.

Do 400K you will.  Cool

Les

Thanks for your reply & support. I almost cried Cry when I read that poetry of yours. Now I feel OBLIGATED to go for 400K. Cool

I still REFUSE to use save states on MAME/MisfitMAME so I'll just be devoting a few hours a night to D2K. I'm also playing a lot of Frogger the last several weeks in the hopes of cracking 100K during the tourny. Got some really GOOD scores on Funspot's Zookeeper the last few weeks too!!(4.4 million). Look forward to seeing you & your kin and Rick at the tourny..

Scootie,
I wrote those things because it was so much fun and enjoyment for me and my sons, especially Jacob my youngest, to watch you have so much fun competing against a new challenge.

It reminded me of, back in the day, when they rolled in a new game and everyone wanted to see it, play it and get immersed in the wonder of the new gameplay.  Time seemed to slow down to a crawl when we all got stuck figuring out a new game and the strategies one needed to succeed against the progammers of the game.

You will exceed 400K because you love the game.

I look forward to seeing you during FS XI, as will Joseph, Justin and Jacob.

We will be in Wednesday evening and leaving the late afternoon of 1 June.

Hey Scootie, I too, look forward to watching you and Eric tear it up, in a couple weeks, at Funspot.

See you there, Game on...   Cool

Les & Jason

It's trying at times. D2K is a very demanding game and on level 4 EVERY board except the last 2 are proving to be a real challenge. Only had 3 games so far where I've made it past 4-3. Top score is now up to 163,500 where it's been for several weeks now. Haven't played much D2K in the last 2 weeks - been putting most of energies into Frogger - going for at least a 50K game at the tourny. Had a 47,420 tonight which is my new Frogger high. Did not have enough time for D2K so I played a game of Zookeeper - scoring a very respectable 3,010,120 (best jump - 1,000,000 on 2nd lion board). Cool

Thanks for your continued support  Wink- I certainly look forward to seeing you guys - as well as everyone else in a few weeks Grin Definately will be resuming D2K play this weekend. Les  - I will be VERY satisfied if I can break 200K during the tourny - no small feat on such a low scoring game Smirk. I'm looking forward myself - to watching Ben attempt 400K+ Smile
