26 year old Pac-Man Plus record broken... twice !

26 years to the day, master gamer Aart van Vliet beat the long-standing world record, by Shannon Ryan, on Pac-Man Plus.  His 2009 score of 3,456,560 points topped the former WR of 3,213,900, set way back on November 21, 1983.

But, Aart wasn't done yet; three days later, he took his first man all the way to the splitscreen, and notched the topmost score ever (for any platform), making a superb mark of 3,481,980.  He also missed only two items (both ghosts) that were made available to him, which is also a supreme feat.

Congratulations on the incredible double world records, Aart, during your visit at the annual Funspot November gathering.

Today, John Cunningham (Weehawk on these forums) generously offered a $100 bounty for the highest score on a specific play challenge, for the MAME version of Asteroids.  The original thread is here, and the details are below.

Thanks to John, and good luck to those who will go for the bucks !

I'll offer a $100 (usd) prize for the recording scoring the most points on the first set of asteroids using MAME's "asteroid" ROMset posted to this thread by Sunday September 27, 2009 at 6 PM Central Daylight Time, . Must be WolfMAME .106. When the last asteroid of the first set is destroyed, scoring is ended. We will refer to this as the Darren Harris Leechapalooza - Cover Your Asteroid - Saucer Hunting Extravaganza Challenge, or DHLCYASHEC.

Payment will be made by Paypal only.

Inp files must be zipped and posted as attachments to this thread. The zip file may have any name, but the inp file inside must be named asteroid.inp. Also, inps must be posted within 24 hours of recording, and don't monkey with the date settings on your system or you will be disqualified by Basement Cat, who is watching you play while Ceiling Cat is on vacation. The souls of all disqualified participants become the property of Basement Cat for all eternity.

Ties will be broken by earlier submission winning.
