I showed Jimmy Linderman's CAGDC wr performances (at CE) on Klax and Galaga '88,
Damn, I missed that Galaga performance and I've been wanting to see it. Any way I could see it somewhere?
No prob., Hector - I'll be working on (finally !) getting to three or four outstanding DVD compilations this winter. These will be the best of: Jimmy Linderman; Aart van Vliet; Don Hayes; and a compilation of general great scores / clips are coming... guaranteed ! Plus, Crystal Castles, volume II, will be in the works ! In the meantime, make sure you've caught my current DVD's for sale
here, and the free clips onsite
here (shame on anyone who didn't already know about both...

).
OK, back to the topic...
What a great time at Funspot this past weekend! I'm Having a problem uploading pictures...
It was great, indeed. It's always nice to see all the gamers, and see them play. BTW, Eric, I sent you info on uploading to
CAGDC. As always, anyone can upload any pics / scans / etc. that are arcade related at anytime by going to
this link and following the instructions.
Speaking of pics (and vids), big thanks again go to my
CAGDC 'reporters in the field', who donate their pics to me for the site. This time, Greg Laue, Fred Ochs, and Chris Whiteside contributed. Thanks, guys !!
Now, on to Sunday. As reported
here by the man himself, Aart had a fine Ms. Pac performance, getting to screen 134 on his first life, but the score was low because of 'bad fruit' - he couldn't get by 134, and ended with about 848K (his 'all-time worst' score going onto screen 134, BTW, was about 837K). Well, he'll be trying it again, along with
Pac-Man Plus, today and / or tomorrow.
Also yesterday, Ben Falls and I had a 'fun' game of
Marble Madness before he left in the afternoon. Back in the 80's, I thot up an ingenious trick - on a two-player game, one player uses their marble to fall down on, and break, the other player's marble, while they're getting the wand !! It's a chore to set up, but we got it work on the fourth try, albeit by accident. I was experimenting with the positioning and falling angle of the marbles, and I thot there was more time on the clock, but the time was such that the wand appeared, right after I sent one marble down on the other (just to see if the alignment was correct). Well, it
was correct, and I broke the marble while it was getting the wand. After it regenerated, the wand was frozen above the marble, in the animated stillframe position it was in when the marble was broken ! I then cruised around the screen with it floating above the marble. Too cool ! And, of course, I got it on vid (hi-def, no less...).
A final 'fun' note is that Vic Osinaga and I had a few betting games during the weekend on
Millipede (TGTS settings). We're pretty evenly matched, and we exchanged victories on the first two tries. The third time, he won ($5), and I wanted one last chance to 'get even'. So, before he and Ben left, we competed one last time, and it was for $10 (at my request... I had to try to be in the 'plus' column !!). Well, I barely pulled it out, and netted +$5 for the weekend ! BTW, most of our games ended up in the 70 - 100K range.
Well, the 'prime-time' of the November gathering is done, but Les Martin and his 3 boys are here for today, and Aart and I don't leave until Thanksgiving Day ! So, keep checking back for more potential 'big' news !!
