FROM THE AUTHOR ...

I was really excited when Steve Harris invited me (in 1986) to write an article on my favorite arcade game, Crystal Castles, for Top Score magazine. But, that was a breeze compared to this booklet. I've spent countless hours putting it together, not to mention the hundreds of hours I've practiced the game, which was, of course, essential for all of this information. However, I'm glad to have finally summed up almost everything of importance and interest on the game. Note that most of this was written in 1986, and that the tense in some places, along with a few references, is not entirely accurate, as far as how it applies today, which is over ten years later. Still, rather than do a complete rewrite, I've chosen to let the reader be aware of the time lag that is in effect. I have decided to update the areas where it is necessary, such as the high scores, top players, etc... The only other thing to keep in mind is that after my world record 898,815 score, I played much less, and especially so after I was beaten (in not only one, but two different ways !) by my good friend Frank Seay, who I taught how to play the game. He still holds the world record score today, and accomplished it using an incredible slant on how to play the game. For details of this, go back to the Crystal Castles page, or click here.

Now, back to the booklet; I've arranged it in a specific order, which is, put the items of more general interest and lighter reading towards the front, and then get more technical and serious in the latter part of the booklet. Please try out everything that interests you, and have fun doing it! I have tried to find all mistakes, but I'm sure a few have slipped in. If you find any, let me know.
