Here's a whole group of additions to the site !  In order, I've put up two new vids on the Media Files page, added a page for the upcoming, and 3rd annual, CAGDC Tournament, put up a page (with photos) showing the new tourney location in Bloomington, Illinois, and last, but far from least, are the new additions (two in a new category) to the Trade or Sale page.  On the aforementioned page, be sure to look for items #1a (TG tokens !!), #9 (a KoK poster), and #10 (an MDA autographed photo).

Check it all out, and then when you're done, go to the Members Area page, and if you're a member, you can see one of the two new vids I mentioned above in double-size, plus see one that I put up last year on the regular page now doubled-up too, in 'Members-land'.  Oh, the video bliss...

Panic Bomber

I've just rolled out a whole passel of new media goodies.  First, I've added two new categories to the Media Files page, and filled out both with numerous files.  One is for theatrical film coverage, and the other is for player quotes and comments.  The King of Kong movie serves as the lion's share of clips for both.  And second, I've added quite a few files to the Panic Bomber page, which are all incredible orchestral compositions for all nine stages of in-game music.  So, put on the headphones, and click away !

Now, my Funspot pages are not the only place onsite that I've received picture contributions for !  I had an initial group that I put up along with my coverage of this year's CE show, and then I received three (!!) other sets of pics.  Well, those are now up and ready (along with my usual parallel coverage on the Members Area, and Elite Members Area), so check out the copious quantity.  Oh, and while you're at it, there's a couple of updates for two of the score tables I had listed.  So, get clickin' !

OCTOBER 2007

This is one time where double-dipping is a good thing !  I have not one, but two new features; one is part of a brand new section on the web site that's devoted to coverage of my occasional road trips.  I sometimes drive to see out-of-state (and, some in-state !) arcades, manufacturers of arcade coin-ops, personal gamerooms, and (of course) famed gamers.  Well, this time I go to Ohio, to see myself in the film The King of Kong.  Then, a few weeks later, I travel over to the 'J-cade' (which is Jason Spindler's great home arcade) for an 'arcade party' event.  Well, buckle up, and come along for both rides !

Continuing my latest routine, started on the Funspot pages, here's my all-encompassing summary, on one big page, of the latest California Extreme event.  You'll get my usual excellent photo coverage (over 100 shots), photos from other gamers who attended, complete results for both contests held there this year, plus even more features and additions to come in the near future !

I've already posted the third set of donated Funspot tournament pictures on the site - Fred Pastore has let me utilize his coverage of this year's tourney, which joins my previous gallery of shots.  In addition, there's scoring coverage, plus a media story from a local newspaper.

Here's the second set of donated pictures from Funspot to appear on the CAGDC site - Blaine Locklair has allowed me to utilize his coverage of this year's tourney.  He has numerous shots covering happenings, and arcade games, that I didn't get around to photographing, so, take a look.

Prepare for complete coverage, all on one page, of the very first Funspot tournament, which was held in 1999.  I've got world-exclusive photos (hell, any photos are a world-exclusive, as no one else has posted any !), complete (and well-organized) tourney results, and even an article summarizing a lot of the goings-on.  So, strap on the time machine, and take a trip back to the last Millennium.

Better late than never - I just got around (a few years after the fact) to posting this set of pictures from the first contest that I'd been to in about 15 years !  Well, I waited too long, on both taking the trip, and doing the picture posting, but it's all ready now, so check it out !

TV show clips

I've just put up 2 new videos for a brand new category on the Media Files page - TV show clips.  But, I must admit to being a bit ashamed of one, as it features the wussy of public television - Mister Rogers !  Well, I guess he can't be that bad, as he did a show segment featuring Donkey Kong.  In addition to 'the sweatered one', I've got a clip showing one of the most clever skits from Seinfeld, which features George in his quest to preserve his Frogger score, as he moves the machine to his apartment.

Here's the pictorial coverage of this year's second annual Classic Arcade Gaming (dot com) Tournament.  As great as last year was, this year was probably a measure better, both with the four new-to-the-event world-class players (Abdner Ashman, Darren Harris, Rick Carter, and Jimmy Linderman), and with all the incredible performances.  Besides tour-de-force exhibitions from Jimmy and Abdner, multiple contestants threw down some serious gaming smack.  So, check it all out right here...

I've recently added 7 new vids to the Media Files page, and what a great mix of videos these are !  We have: Ground Kontrol arcade news coverage that has an interview with gamer Perry Rodgers; a tale of a man (Jon Jamshid) who had to fight the local government to keep his arcade collection; plus, there's four game titles that feature clips showing world record / world record holder play: Tony Temple is shown playing his world record game on Missile Command; Greg Erway is seen nuking his old world record score in a game of Tapper; yours truly (Mark Alpiger) tries to keep composure during a world record game of The Glob; and last, but not least, the world record holder on Tron, David Cruz, demonstrates play on two screens in the game.

Here's one area of the web site that was literally years in the making; I have video clips, and sound files, spanning all the way back to 1983.  Included is a lot of great news coverage, game play, and (soon to come) CAGDC interviews, as far as the videos go.  And, let's not forget the audio - I have sound bytes from arcade games, plus game-related music files, and even a few 'quips' from players.

How about a 'double-shot' of tournament pics ?  Well, I have coverage of both tourneys that have taken place this year at America's friendliest arcade - namely, Challenge Arcade, located near Reading, PA.  First, we have the event I co-hosted this past March - the 2006 CAGDC Tournament.  Then, there's the East Coast Arcade Championships, held in September.  Both events totaled 181 shots, and you'll get a feel for how great these events (and the arcade) were.

It's about time to roll out the 'events' area of the site.  This is for shows that aren't about (or just about) a contest.  And, the first thing to be covered here is one of the biggest events of the year - the California Extreme show.  I've got almost 200 pictures that cover a lot of what went on at the 10th annual edition of the event, plus some related gaming trips that I took while in the area.

Here's another great set of pictures from the annual tournament at Funspot.  As was the case with last year's, I again have over double the amount from the previous year !  You can count on pics of all the big action, including shots involving world records set by: Brian Kuh, Bryan Wagner, Robert Griffin, David Cruz, Gary Whelan, Darren Harris, and Todd Rogers.

The Members Area of the site is finally open !  And, what an opening, with some great pics from 'across the pond' kicking things off (namely, CGEUK) !  Lots more is coming (including most all of my picture coverage of contests, and trips that I've been on that are gaming-related).  All you need for admission is to be a semi-regular poster on the CAGDC forums, so join today !

Here's another new category for the main page, already !  The title may be a bit wordy, but, let's face it - video games used to be everywhere !  Starting things off is one of the best, and newest, arcades in the nation, and one that gears things specifically toward the classics - Challenge Arcade, in Pennsylvania.

It's been a while since a new category was launched on the main page, but, it was worth the wait !  Kicking off things is the info on my (and CAGDC's) $25,000 in bounty offers for 2006.  Then, in a bit of a salute to the past, you can check out the press release that details the start of the idea of arcade gaming bounties, 'way back' in 1999.

Another year, another great set of pictures from the annual tournament at Funspot.  This time, I have over double the amount from 2004 !  I have pics of all the big action, including shots involving Steve Wiebe's, Greg Erway's, and even Billy Mitchell's (on tape) world record performances.

It seems that 'lost' is a recurrent theme on CAGDC.  Apparently, there were no backups in place for the Funspot forums, run by Gary Vincent, and he said that everything was lost last month... for the second time in a bit over 3 years !  Well, fortunately, I know of resources that have enabled the resurrection of at least a good portion of the posts, and it's all right here.

It's been quite some time since I brought out the CAGDC Hall of Fame, in the Summer of 2003.  Well, I've now inducted the first new player into the 'fold' - none other than Donald Hayes, who many consider to be the best modern era player, overall.  He's definitely a worthy addition to the original list of 8 players, and is the only one to have made most of his wr scores in just the last few years.  Read on for all the details of his playing prowess.

Well, the ever-unreliable Steve Harris apparently strikes again.  Not only did I never see any of David Palmer's scoring achievements (that were submitted to S.H. and Twin Galaxies) published, but all of those records, and paperwork, were lost.  That is, until now...

They were good before, and now... they're great !  The lists detailing the Video Game Masters Tournaments have been updated, thru the addition of previously unentered information (such as player hometown and birth date), and also thru the correction of erroneous name and score information.  Oh, and the 1983 results, from the inaugural tourney, are now up, and ready for your inspection.

This furry little guy might just become your new best friend !  The Mole's column will have lots of 'unofficial' news, and other interesting 'scoops' that just don't fit in the CAGDC news section.  Simply put, it's all the 'news' that others fail to print...

How about this world-exclusive, provided by none other than Walter Day !  He gave CAGDC a look at the layout of his upcoming 2nd edition of the Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records, along with the cover, too.  This is the first entry in the 'Miscellaneous' area of CAGDC.

Here's the first of many world-exclusives to come - the infamous 'lost' results from the 1987 Video Game Masters Tournament.  You'll see some incredible scores on a number of games, for the first time ever.  Even Steve Harris' lack of record-keeping couldn't hold back the results from finally being made available.

Here's the pictorial story on this year's June tourney at Funspot. I captured most everything, and everyone, and I think you'll get a chuckle out of some of the captions.

Nothing can top the breadth, and ease of viewing, of my true wr page.  However, getting a chance to review the results (most all of which were world records) of past major contests, as chronicled in the Guinness Book of World Records, is an incredible chance to relive the past - almost as if it were the 80's all over again !
